2019: What's Around the Corner?

A silver ADEXE watch with some fairy lights and sparkle

Happy 2019!

Finally, it's 2019! It's time for a fresh slate to begin; damn finally! I'm ready to make this the best year yet, and I feel great about the fact that I can officially put some things behind me. Whilst I'm not huge on the 'new year, new me' front, I love to use the new year to set some goals and resolutions for the year ahead. I have a number of things in mind, both for myself, my lifestyle and for my blog. So, without further ado...

Make More Time for Hobbies

Whilst I was at University in particular, I really struggled with my work-life balance and making time to do things that I enjoyed. Now that i'm working instead, I find that I'm able to juggle this a lot better and I have much more time to do fun things. I really want to find the time and space to do more of what I enjoy; going to the gym more often (I'm aiming for three times a week) and keeping a more structured routine, reading, playing video games and blogging. Oh boy, 2019 is gonna be fuuuuun!

I am absolutely loving calligraphy at the minute too; it's just so aesthetically pleasing to look at it. There's nothing more satisfying than managing to draw something and then show it to everybody, and I think they can make great blog photos too. I have a journal that I'm planning on using as a bullet journal, and I really hope that I can use it to draw some damn pretty things!

I'm not sure whether you'll have noticed this one, but I've been trying to improve my photography recently and it's something I'm thoroughly enjoying! I've started to use manual mode on my camera, I use white sheets of paper to reduce shadows on my flat lays and so on. I also find that enjoying photography means I can save memories of locations and events by taking photos, instead of purchasing souvenirs (which leads me on nicely to my next point). In 2019, I'd like to take this even further by practicing further with different modes, lenses, and implementing these skills further on my blog.

As my blog is my favourite hobby, here are some of my blog goals;

  • Reach DA 25

  • Reach 15,000 combined social media followers

  • Be more active on social media and schedule tweets in occasionally

  • Go back through old posts and improve the SEO on them

  • Improve my photography; including finding appropriate props and paying more attention to detail. I'd love to start taking more fashion photos and headshots

  • Talk more about minimalism and write some decluttering posts

Simplify

This point is a little more vague, but throughout 2018 I've been working on selling/donating my old things. Condensing my belongings is something I really want to continue in 2019. I'll be focusing on the basics that I don't own in my wardrobe and picking these up, with a view of looking for high quality items that last. I've taken a break from eBay selling over Christmas but I really want to get back to it in the new year, and I have a few more items to sell which I'm really happy with. I've heard many minimalists say that having less clutter helps to reduce stress, and it's something that I genuinely agree with. There's nothing more satisfying than a clean, tidy space!

On the blog front, I'm also looking to make things a lot more simple. Whilst I love having a weekly schedule, I'll be scrapping it to ensure that I post more high quality content. I really believe that posting on an ad-hoc basis will ensure that my posts are better thought through and they're more likely to be pieces that I'm proud of, rather than simply writing for the sake of it.

If there's one thing I've learnt this year, it's that minimalism is much more than simply not having material possessions. It extends to lifestyle, friends and everything else that you can think of. As I've found myself getting frequently overwhelmed and 'burning the candle at both ends' by making so many plans on top of work; I really want to focus on this, keeping my routine a little simpler and taking the pressure off to be busy.

The thing about using sheets of paper to stop shadows - do post more on that! Shadows are the worst!
Thanks for the good quality post!

  17. You've got a great set of goals here! I've been trying to declutter myself. Especially with my clothing. I went through my wardrobe a couple of days ago and donated a bag to my local op shop. Good luck with everything next year! I love your photos in this post!

  19. I also really want to make time for hobby’s but I know that will be difficult for final year of uni! Photography is a main goal for me next year, hopefully it will improve in the spring when there is more natural light! I really want to buy a camera but no idea where to begin 😂 great post lovely!

    ReplyDelete
  20. Omg yes, final year is so hectic honestly, I'm not surprised! Natural light always helps - I struggle to get it right when using artificial light so spring/summer is a great time to really start (esp. once you've finished uni). :D xx

  22. Great post! I did my own post focusing on my new year blogging goals and found that it was a good way to work out what direction I wanted my blog to go in. Having something to work towards is so helpful in focusing yourself and a good way to get motivated. I too am looking at photography more and love your idea of simplifying things. It definitely makes things look cleaner and clears your head! 😊

  25. Good luck with all your goals lovely I hope you have a fab 2019! I totally agree that we shouldn't stick to a posting schedule if it hinders the quality of our posts and I'll be thinking about that more next year instead of writing for the sake of it!!

  26. Love your goals! There are some great ones here, they all sound really achievable as well. Making more time for anything should be a goal on anyone's list for the new year. Whether that's family, friends and / or hobbies. I wish you all the best for 2019! With these goals in mind, I'm sure it will be a lovely year.

  28. Inspiring goals for 2019. I'm also really hoping to take my de-cluttering to the next level this year. My basement workshop area never seems to make it to the top of my list, but it could be a pretty cool place to actually work if I could clean out all the junk in the way! I also share your goal of improving my DA! I hope we both make it! Happy New Year and good luck!

these are great goals, your photography is already incredible so i can’t wait to see how you improve upon it. I also really want to get into photography this coming year, my older brother is always telling me that my career should be in photography but i never do anything about it out of fear. 2019 will be the year i practice it and figure out if i have a love for it, this post inspired me. x

  30. I LOVE your approach to simplicity. I am so with you on that.I started that with my wardrobe and I am trying to pull it into other areas of life. the next challenge is passing it on to my kids, in the meantime, I just collect stuff when they are not around and donate it. they never noticed. simplicity works:)

  32. These are some fab goals, and I'm sure you'll achieve them! Mine are probably quite similar too, I would love to reach a DA of 25 and gain more followers. Also I am the exact same with posting now, I don't really want to have a schedule, just want to publish high quality content that I'm proud of <3

Hope you have a lovely New Years Eve and a fab start to the year!

  48. Hi There! I found you via Nancy's blog. I am also not big on the 'new year, new me' thing. I actually put that in the beginning of my blog too! Haha. What sorta stuff do you sell on ebay? I'm interested in getting into that. But I never know what to sell. I think being a minimalist would be hard for me, because I have SO much stuff, ugh. But it would be nice to cut down on the clutter in my life. I hope you reach your goal of 15K social media followers! What is your current count up to now? I hope you'll visit my blog and we can become blog buddies!

  49. Thanks Kirsty! Eeep, I hope it went well! xx

  50. Oh hello! :) I've just read your post now, it's super cute!

I'm just selling my old things on eBay that I don't want/wear anymore - mostly clothes! It's great to get a little money back on things. I'm currently on 9,900!

Of course we can be blog friends! xx

  51. You have such good goals for the year! I love the idea of simplifying, your right sometimes things can be too complex. When I was at uni, especially in my final year, I also struggled with a work life balance plus I had absolutely no money to do anything so I completely understand the need for balance.

Good Luck with your goals this year and I can't wait to see some more of your posts throughout the year!
