Finally, it’s 2019! It’s time for a fresh slate to begin; damn finally! I’m ready to make this the best year yet, and I feel great about the fact that I can officially put some things behind me. Whilst I’m not huge on the ‘new year, new me’ front, I love to use the new year to set some goals and resolutions for the year ahead. I have a number of things in mind, both for myself, my lifestyle and for my blog. So, without further ado…
Make More Time for Hobbies
Whilst I was at University in particular, I really struggled with my work-life balance and making time to do things that I enjoyed. Now that i’m working instead, I find that I’m able to juggle this a lot better and I have much more time to do fun things. I really want to find the time and space to do more of what I enjoy; going to the gym more often (I’m aiming for three times a week) and keeping a more structured routine, reading, playing video games and blogging. Oh boy, 2019 is gonna be fuuuuun!
I am absolutely loving calligraphy at the minute too; it’s just so aesthetically pleasing to look at it. There’s nothing more satisfying than managing to draw something and then show it to everybody, and I think they can make great blog photos too. I have a journal that I’m planning on using as a bullet journal, and I really hope that I can use it to draw some damn pretty things!
I’m not sure whether you’ll have noticed this one, but I’ve been trying to improve my photography recently and it’s something I’m thoroughly enjoying! I’ve started to use manual mode on my camera, I use white sheets of paper to reduce shadows on my flat lays and so on. I also find that enjoying photography means I can save memories of locations and events by taking photos, instead of purchasing souvenirs (which leads me on nicely to my next point). In 2019, I’d like to take this even further by practicing further with different modes, lenses, and implementing these skills further on my blog.
As my blog is my favourite hobby, here are some of my blog goals;
- Reach DA 25
- Reach 15,000 combined social media followers
- Be more active on social media and schedule tweets in occasionally
- Go back through old posts and improve the SEO on them
- Improve my photography; including finding appropriate props and paying more attention to detail. I’d love to start taking more fashion photos and headshots
- Talk more about minimalism and write some decluttering posts

This point is a little more vague, but throughout 2018 I’ve been working on selling/donating my old things. Condensing my belongings is something I really want to continue in 2019. I’ll be focusing on the basics that I don’t own in my wardrobe and picking these up, with a view of looking for high quality items that last. I’ve taken a break from eBay selling over Christmas but I really want to get back to it in the new year, and I have a few more items to sell which I’m really happy with. I’ve heard many minimalists say that having less clutter helps to reduce stress, and it’s something that I genuinely agree with. There’s nothing more satisfying than a clean, tidy space!
On the blog front, I’m also looking to make things a lot more simple. Whilst I love having a weekly schedule, I’ll be scrapping it to ensure that I post more high quality content. I really believe that posting on an ad-hoc basis will ensure that my posts are better thought through and they’re more likely to be pieces that I’m proud of, rather than simply writing for the sake of it.
If there’s one thing I’ve learnt this year, it’s that minimalism is much more than simply not having material possessions. It extends to lifestyle, friends and everything else that you can think of. As I’ve found myself getting frequently overwhelmed and ‘burning the candle at both ends’ by making so many plans on top of work; I really want to focus on this, keeping my routine a little simpler and taking the pressure off to be busy.
